In the days leading up to the flood, we experienced relentless heavy rainfall, saturating the ground and raising water levels. But that wasn’t the whole story…
Two major events played a role in what happened:
1️⃣ Whaley Bridge Dam Crisis – This made national news as the dam was at risk of collapse, prompting emergency water pumping into local watercourses, further inflating levels.
2️⃣ A555 Airport Relief Road Flooding – Just 1.5 miles from our home, this newly built road had pumps and storage tanks designed to prevent flooding. However, it flooded and was closed. On the very day we were hit, they pumped excess water straight into local watercourses—contributing to what became a catastrophic flood for us.
